RV electrical repair

RVs run on two systems. The 12 volt side runs lights, fans, slides and controls off the batteries. The 120 volt side runs outlets and big appliances off shore power, a generator or an inverter. Problems on one side often show up on the other.

Common problems
- Outlets dead but lights work, or the other way around
- Batteries not charging or going flat overnight
- Converter, inverter or charger not working
- Transfer switch problems between shore power and generator
- Breakers or GFCI outlets that keep tripping
- Solar or lithium battery setup not behaving
Things to check before you send a request
- Reset every GFCI outlet. One tripped GFCI can kill several outlets, including outside ones.
- Check the breakers in your panel and at the park pedestal.
- Check the battery disconnect switch. It's easy to bump off.
- If you have a surge protector or power management system, look at its display for an error.
120 volt shore power can kill. If you smell burning or see scorch marks, unplug from the pedestal and leave it for a tech.
